Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

The International Journal of Kashmir Studies (IJKS) invites original research articles, review articles, conceptual papers, theoretical studies, and other scholarly contributions relating to Kashmir and its wider regional and international context. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary research covering areas such as politics, international relations, history, sociology, economics, law, human rights, governance, security studies, culture, education, media, and peace and conflict studies. Submissions should demonstrate academic rigor, originality, and a clear contribution to existing scholarship.

Manuscripts submitted to the journal must be original and must not have been previously published or be under consideration by another journal. Authors should ensure that the manuscript represents their own work and that all sources, quotations, ideas, data, and other borrowed material are properly acknowledged. In the case of multiple authors, all authors should have made a significant contribution to the research and approved the final version of the manuscript before submission.

Manuscripts should be written in clear and scholarly English. A typical submission should include a concise title, author name(s), institutional affiliation(s), email address, abstract, keywords, main text, conclusion, and references. The abstract should briefly describe the purpose of the study, research approach or methodology, major findings, and conclusions. Authors should provide relevant keywords that accurately reflect the subject of the manuscript. The structure of the main text may be adapted according to the nature and methodology of the research.

Research articles should clearly present the research problem, objectives, relevant literature, methodology, analysis, findings, discussion, and conclusions, where applicable. Review and conceptual papers should provide a critical and well-organized discussion of existing scholarship and establish a clear academic argument. Tables, figures, charts, maps, and other illustrations should be appropriately numbered, titled, and referred to within the manuscript. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for copyrighted material where required.

Authors should use a consistent academic citation and referencing style throughout the manuscript. Every source cited in the text should appear in the reference list, and all references should be complete and accurate. Authors are encouraged to use relevant scholarly and up-to-date sources and to provide DOI or other permanent identifiers wherever available.

Manuscripts are subject to editorial assessment and peer review. The editorial team may initially evaluate submissions for scope, originality, academic quality, and basic compliance with the journal’s requirements. Suitable manuscripts are then sent for peer review. Authors may be required to revise their manuscripts in response to editorial or reviewer comments before a final publication decision is made.

Authors must maintain appropriate standards of publication ethics. Plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, duplicate submission or publication, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, and other forms of academic misconduct are unacceptable. Any potential conflict of interest should be disclosed. Where research involves human participants, interviews, surveys, or sensitive personal information, authors should follow applicable ethical standards and obtain informed consent or ethical approval where required.

Authors should carefully proofread their manuscripts before submission and ensure that the text, references, tables, figures, and supporting information are accurate and complete. The use of artificial intelligence or other automated tools should be responsible and transparent, and authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and scholarly content of their submitted work.

Submission of a manuscript to IJKS indicates that the authors agree to comply with the journal’s editorial, peer-review, publication ethics, and other applicable policies. Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s online submission system, following the submission instructions provided on the journal website.
